Job Duties

As a Veteran Services Representative, you will have the important mission of serving Virginia’s veterans and their families. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring veterans and their dependents receive the benefits, support, quality care, and recognition they have earned through their service and sacrifice.
  • Advocating for and assisting veterans with the preparation, presentation, and prosecution of lawful and ethical veterans claims for their entitled benefits.
  • Educating veterans and their dependents about the services and benefits available from the state and federal governments.
  • Conducting outreach to promote the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (VDVS) and its programs.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to veterans’ benefits (preferred).
  • Experience with military and/or military veteran communities.
  • Ability to interpret complex laws and regulations and apply them to casework.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Customer service and public speaking expertise.
  • Willingness to travel overnight and participate in regular community outreach, including some weekends or holidays.

Additional Considerations

Applicants must be eligible for accreditation to represent veterans before the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Additionally, an equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates the possession of the required knowledge and abilities is acceptable.
