- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to the job plus three (3) years in Fleet program areas, two (2) of which were in a supervisory or management capacity.

Austin Energy is looking for a strong leader to fill the role of Fleet Program Manager. This position is responsible for managing a large and diverse fleet of over 800 city vehicles and pieces of equipment. The fleet includes heavy duty service trucks, bucket trucks, utility service vehicles, and specialized equipment that support field operations across the utility.
This role leads a team that handles day-to-day operations, including fleet coordination, scheduling, preventive maintenance, and vendor oversight. The Fleet Program Manager also works closely with the City of Austin’s Fleet Mobility Services to plan for future vehicle needs, develop capital requests, and ensure effective contract management for leased vehicles and fleet maintenance services.
Candidates should bring experience in fleet operations or maintenance, a track record of managing teams, service contracts and budgets, and the ability to use data and software tools to drive performance. Critical:
- Experience managing a public sector or utility fleet program, including oversight of heavy-duty service vehicles and specialized equipment
- Supervisory experience in fleet operations, vehicle maintenance, or program management
- Familiarity with municipal or government contract management, including vendor oversight and compliance
- Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP), Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM), or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
- Certified Texas Contract Manager (CTCM) or equivalent experience with procurement processes or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
- Strong understanding of fleet management systems and tools, including GPS tracking and maintenance software
- Proven ability to analyze data, identify trends, and optimize fleet performance and reliability
1. Establishes fleet program standards, methods, policies and procedures by studying business requirements, obtaining appropriate consultations, and determining equipment, facility, staffing, and budget needs.
2. Develops business plan by reviewing department needs, establishing appropriate procedures and timelines of request completion, and estimating costs of good required to complete request.
3. Establishes priorities, scheduling activities and employees, confers with suppliers to obtain parts, monitors progress and revises schedules and resolves problems as they arise.
4. Manages equipment and facilities by establishing maintenance procedures, monitoring of contracts, maintaining necessary equipment requirements, and evaluation of new equipment and techniques.
5. Responsible for establishment of budgetary requirements, purchasing, monitoring of daily reports and logs, approving expenditures, compiling and analyzing costs and initiating corrective measures.
6. Maintains professional and technical knowledge of assigned program by attending training classes, reviewing professional publications, and serve on committees or boards.
